Glass cloth is an inorganic material that is non-combustible and has excellent high-temperature resistance. Glass fiber cloth itself can be used at temperatures above 500°C. It also has a high tensile strength, which is over 5 times higher than that of a 25μm PET film. In addition, glass cloth has excellent chemical resistance and flexibility. Due to these properties, glass fiber woven cloth is commonly used as a substrate for tapes.

Since glass fiber cloth has good high-temperature resistance, it is often used to make high-temperature resistant tapes, which are usually coated with thermosetting natural rubber or acrylic-based pressure-sensitive adhesives. However, the heat resistance of these two types of adhesives is relatively low, with the heat resistance level of natural rubber being around 130°C and acrylic-based pressure-sensitive adhesive being below 155°C. If coated with silicone-based pressure-sensitive adhesive, the temperature resistance of the tape can reach over 180°C. Silicone glass cloth tapes have good flame retardancy and can meet the requirements of the UL-510 standard with some treatment. Further cross-linking can reduce the contamination of uncross-linked silicone on the substrate.
